André Mota was born in 1998, in Braga, Portugal.
He started his music studies in 2004 at Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian.
During his time in this school, he learned to play the guitar and did many concerts with the school choir. In 2013, he started studying composition at the same school and entered the chamber choir with which he has done concerts in Theatro Circo and CCB – Centro Cultural de Belém. During this time he also participated in the choir of many of the school musical productions, such as Por este rio acima, The Little Prince(ss) and the opera Theatro: Um ensaio geral by Francisco Fontes, José Diogo Martins and Pedro Lima and text by Júlia Durand, all premiered at Theatro Circo. He also continued his guitar studies with Rui Gama, who led him being in 2014 one of the founder members of Orquestra de Cordas Dedilhadas do Minho, led by Rui Gama himself.
In 2016 he started his undergraduate degree in Composition at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where he was accepted to the chamber choir, having participated in the Festival Coral de Verão 2017. During the summer 2017, he also participated in the festival Peças Frescas edição Açores IV where were premiered different works by young composers.
