_
Emílio van Rensburg (1995) was born in Pretoria, South Africa. He started his musical career at the age of 6, singing in different choirs and playing guitar.
In 2012, he joined the all-male Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool choir, under the baton of Michael Barrett, and performed as a soloist in the Llangollen Eistedfodd in Wales, with a special focus on traditional African music.
In 2014, he joined the Stellenbosch University Choir under the baton of André van der Merwe, and had the privilege to compete with them at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, where they set 3 records and even the highest mark ever awarded.
In 2016, he joined the prestigious Akustika Chamber Singers, under the baton of Christo Burger, and performed classical, contemporary and experimental music. They performed with well-known South African and international musicians, artists and writers doing various pop and rock shows and even theatre.
He was also part of the Vox Collective ensemble that specialised in performing in commercial South African productions with the country’s most well-known artists, which allowed him to diversify his music portfolio even further.
He has worked with a multitude of distinguished musicians and conductors including Bengt Ollen, Hendrik Hofmeyr, Brady Allred and Sigvards Klava. He’s currently studying with Portuguese vocal coach, Joana Nascimento.
Emílio moved to Lisbon in 2021, joined Nova Era soon thereafter and continues to regularly perform with them across Portugal.
