Nova Era presents its sixth edition of Lisbon Choral Conducting Masterclass from the 4th to the 7th September 2025 for conductors, music teachers, students and choral enthusiasts.

Nova Era presents its sixth edition of Lisbon Choral Conducting Masterclass from the 4th to the 7th September 2025 for conductors, music teachers, students and choral enthusiasts. This choral conducting masterclass gives you a unique opportunity to gain expertise with Clara Alcobia Coelho, ESML conducting teacher, Marc Korovitch, the choir master of the Swedish Radio Choir, the musical director of the Orchestre Colonne and of the Spanish Radio and Television Choir RTVE, and Justin Doyle, the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin. The courses are designed to meet the needs and abilities of each individual - from beginners to experienced conductors. The classes will focus on the conducting technique, rehearsal technique, vocal technique and interpretation.
The masterclass offers an exceptional opportunity of working with a group of advanced singers and professional musicians of Nova Era Vocal Ensemble and the singers of Coro Regina Coeli, Nova Era Schola, Coro iscte. We would also like to extend the invitation to those who simply wish to observe.
The masterclass will take place at Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon, situated in the centre of Lisbon. The particular classes will provide intensive instruction in choral conducting given by inspirational teachers.
Each student will have the opportunity to participate in the final concert which will be closing the weekend masterclass.

CLARA ALCOBIA COELHO
BEGINNER LEVEL
Professor at Lisbon Music University (ESML) and at Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra since 2001;
Member of the Gulbenkian Choir since 1997;
She worked with the Opera Studio of ESML, the Coro Lisboa Cantat, the Coro do Tejo, the choir of the "Les Musicalles de Grillon", the Lusiovoce ensemble, the Gulbenkian Choir, the Mpmp ensemble, and the Coro Casa da Música;
She performed contemporary a cappella opera by Zad Moultaka in Lisbon and London;
She made recordings with the Lusiovoce Ensemble (2021) and with the Mpmp ensemble (2019 and 2025);
She studied with Vasco Azevedo and Paulo Lourenço and is currently a PhD student at the University of Minho.
MARC KOROVITCH
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
Regularly invited conductor of the Radio France Choir, the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, the Croatian Radio Choir, the NDR chor, the SWR Vokalensemble, the WDR Chor, the English Voices, the Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, the Serbian Radio Choir, the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and the Netherlands Radio Choir;
He is the youngest conductor to have conducted the Concerto Köln in Germany and on tour in Italy and Poland;
He conducts the Hague Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Baroque Orchestra, the Croatian Radio Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Montpellier and the RTVE Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra;
He was appointed choir master of the Swedish Radio Choir in 2019, musical director of the Orchestre Colonne in September 2022, of the Montenegro Symphony Orchestra in 2023 and of the Spanish Radio and Television Choir RTVE in 2024;
He collaborates with conductors such as Sir S. Rattle, H. Blomstedt, K. Mäkelä, D. Harding, L. Shani, G. Dudamel, A. Gilbert, P. Jordan, L. Langrée, L.G. Alarcon, L. Equilbey, E. P. Salonen, J. van Zweden, K. Canellakis, S. Denève;
He was a conducting professor at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris and at the Pôle Supérieur Paris Boulogne Billancourt and is involded in different masterclasses programs, Dirigentforum, Talent Norge.
JUSTIN DOYLE
ADVANCED LEVEL
Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the RIAS Chamber Choir Berlin since 2017;
Choral Scholar at the renowned King’s College, Cambridge;
In 2006, he won second prize at the prestigious Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition in Barcelona and received a scholarship with the BBC Singers;
As a guest conductor, he has led ensembles such as the MDR Radio Choir, the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, the Poznan Philharmonic, the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra, Genesis Sixteen, and the Kammerakademie Potsdam;
From 2018 to 2022, he was a guest professor of choral conducting at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin;
From 2019 to 2024, he served as a guest professor for choral conducting and early music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki;
In the current season, he makes his debut with Chorwerk Ruhr and the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, while returning to conduct ensembles such as the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, the Swedish Radio Choir, and the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra.
MAsterclass fees
For Beginner and Intermediate levels, registration will only be confirmed after the payment.
For Advanced level, the participants must wait for the results of the candidates’ selection. The registration will then be confirmed after the payment.
