Markéta chumová

Markéta Chumová is a holder of a master’s degree in Music and Performance and English Language and Literature (2018) from Charles University, Faculty of Education, Prague. She started her musical studies with solo singing and violin classes when she was six years old at Antonín Dvorák’s Music school in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. She was vocally guided by Dagmar Hubicková and attended competitions and festivals of solo singing as well as chamber music. In 2007, she participated as a solo singer in a Karlovy Vary city council project and sang in several concerts in Varberg, Sweden.

In 2011, Markéta started to study Music and Performance and English Language and Literature at Charles University, Faculty of Education, Prague. During her university studies, she continued her singing and violin training and she joined her first choir projects and performed with several Prague ensembles. As a student of Charles University, she got an opportunity to study music abroad, in Dublin at University College Dublin (2013) and in Lisbon at Escola Superior de Educação and Escola Superior de Música (2016). She finished her master’s in 2018, while living in Lisbon.

As a soloist, Markéta performed Vivaldi’s Gloria in Igreja São Domingos in 2018, directed by conductor João Barros.

Since September 2018, Markéta has been a conductor of mixed choir Slava at FLUL, Universidade de Lisboa, a choir that is focusing exclusively on music of slavic countries. In 2021, Markéta participated in Lisbon Choral Conducting Masterclass where she studied conducting and rehearsal technique with Marcos Cerejo and Bernie Sherlock.

Since January 2023, Markéta has been invited to participate in several programs with professional Lisbon choir Coro Gulbenkian. Therefore, she had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned conductors, such as Myung-Whun Chung, John Nelson, Hannu Lintu and Matthew Halls.

Currently, Markéta is vocally guided by Joana Nascimento and she is a member of Ensemble São Bernardo and Nova Era Vocal Ensemble.
